We are increasingly aware of the benefits of being in our outdoor environment whenever is appropriate to support learning and well-being. We have access to our large field, grassed area, trim trail and an established pond. Weather can limit this access so we have worked on the resources to enable this to prevent any barriers to regular access.
Our outdoor learning provision includes outdoor activities within the PE curriculum; fieldwork in science and geography; forest school sessions and further curriculum linked sessions such as art and DT. These learning outcomes have been brought together under their own curriculum heading which demonstrates the cross curricular opportunities for the children.
The all year round use of our green spaces has long been a goal. We live in a beautiful village with access to further countryside and woodland which offer a wealth of learning opportunities. With support from our wider school community, our long-term aim is to have a permanent outdoor classroom structure on the field and timetabled, outdoor curricular learning opportunities every week throughout the school year.
Throughout these sessions, we use the language of our values to further develop the children’s ownership of these. We also promote self-safeguarding by using dynamic risk assessing in collaboration with the children.
